Douglas L. Field completed law school at the University of California–Davis. and immediately entered the practice of civil litigation in Oakland, California.
After working as an associate and later partner at a large Oakland civil defense law firm, in 1980 he formed Taylor & Field, which engaged in all aspects of civil practice for both plaintiffs and defendants, including acting as panel counsel for several large insurance companies.
In 1997, Farmers Insurance Exchange recruited him, where he practiced civil defense litigation, including personal injury defense and construction defect. In 2003, he opened Farmers’ staff counsel office in Stockton, California, and in 2006, he became the managing attorney of the Sacramento Branch Legal Office. There he oversaw fifteen to seventeen attorneys, averaging nearly 1,150 cases throughout each year. He retired from Farmers at the end of 2011.
Field presents seminars and workshops for expert witnesses. His hobbies include the building and displaying of model ships and maintenance of his Spanish language skills. He and his wife, Sandra, have two grown children and four grandchildren. He divides his time between Danville and Woodbridge, California.
